ASET North

Teacher Training

Teacher Training continues in the villages and we are now looking for funds to extend the training to English teachers throughout the Northern region. To date we have trained 260 teachers and are currently running a $30,000 programme to dramatically improve the Maths, Physics and Chemistry teaching of the entire district of Dawlatabad. This district covers about 80,000 people.

Computer Classes

We look forward to starting up computer classes in the very near future, to be taught in English and run by a very talented local man with whom we’ve worked in the past.

Kindergarten Course

ASET is working with local women to provide for the needs of pre-school aged children. Our goals are to achieve improved early education and enhanced parent-child relationships by providing resources, culturally relevant educational methods and skills for local teachers and families, and promoting community participation. By the end of October 2007 there will be nearly 100 children and 8 local teachers in the programme.

Hospital Clinic

We have begun building a $60,000 hospital building in the village north of Mazar. The race is on to finish before winter sets in!

HIV and TB Training

The ASET HIV and TB prevention program is well under way in Sholgarra and this will provide basic HIV Aids and health education to 30,000 people.

Widows Suitmaking Project

In October of 2006, we started a men’s suit-making business development project. The idea is that over 50 vulnerable unemployed women will be set up in their own suit making business selling to the local market. We received a men’s suit pattern from the U.S. Anita transferred the pattern to a table-cloth. Fatima become our second trainer and future business owner. She’s a 25 year old refugee returnee from Iran. To date, we’ve trained 24 women to make men’s suits, as well as 3 women to own and operate 2 future suit-making businesses.
